Buxton International Festival will soon be back in full swing for 2024 and this year we’re offering a plethora of interactive events that promise to immerse attendees in the world of music, opera, books, and local history. There’s a number of standout events that invite you to not just spectate, but actively participate:
1. Buxton Musical Society – Festa Di Puccini In honour of the centenary of Puccini’s death and the fiftieth anniversary of Swiss composer Frank Martin’s passing, the Buxton Musical Society presents a special performance featuring Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and a short orchestral piece by Martin. Led by conductor Sam Hayes, this concert will feature soloists from the Buxton Festival company and talented instrumentalists. 2. Carmen Interactive Workshop and Performance Ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the creative process behind an opera? Now’s your chance to find out. Join the interactive workshop for Bizet’s Carmen, led by the Festival’s Artistic Director, Adrian Kelly, and conductor Iwan Davies. Amateur singers are invited to sing alongside professionals from the Buxton Festival Company, who take on the four protagonist roles from the opera. 3. Festival Walks Step into the rich tapestry of Buxton’s history with themed walks hosted by Discover Buxton.
