BIF is a hotbed for opera talent development. For years we have been supporting artists to progress in their careers, through artist development programmes or fast-tracking performers through casting; we seek out and invest in artists as a priority.

Each year we recruit ten exceptional singers to join our Young Artist Programme, affectionately referred to as ‘YAPs’.
Buxton International Festival are really proud of our Festival Chorus. We select the brightest and best emerging talent from across the country.
Buxton International Festival are leading the opera sector with a brand new talent development programme, Shorts. We have selected a total of seven writers and composers to produce four short operas of twenty minutes between them.

Buxton International Festival prides itself in selecting and supporting artistic work which is both high quality and surprising for our audiences. We work with a range of artists both established and emerging to create a programme each year for the festival, which takes place every July across many venues in Buxton.
