Sung in German, with English surtitles
A Buxton International Festival Concert Performance, featuring the Buxton International Festival Orchestra.
In the sun-drenched courtyard of a Turkish pasha’s palace, a rescue mission is underway. The noble Spanish nobleman Belmonte has arrived to save his beloved Constanze from captivity, risking everything to reclaim the woman he adores. Standing in his way is the strict overseer Osmin, whose comic fury and stubborn vigilance guard the gates. Meanwhile, Belmonte’s resourceful servant Pedrillo schemes to rescue Constanze’s maid, Blonde, turning the harem upside down with daring deception.
The desperate young heroes navigate numerous obstacles, matched by the dazzling vocal acrobatics of Constanze and Blonde. Yet as the final notes ring out, something profound occurs. Beneath the sparkling comedy lies an exploration of loyalty, forgiveness, and human magnanimity, where the ultimate triumph belongs not to vengeance, but to grace.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sparkling Singspiel is a joyful celebration of the human spirit. Brimming with infectious melodies and breathtaking coloratura vocal displays, Die Entführung aus dem Serail is a masterpiece of romance, adventure, and enlightenment.
Following the success of last year’s concert version of La clemenza di Tito, Adrian Kelly returns to Mozart’s repertoire to bring you an exceptional cast accompanied by the fine musicians of the Buxton International Festival Orchestra.
