Opening Night: Hamlet at Buxton International Festival 2025

The red carpet was rolled out at Buxton Opera House on Saturday 12 July for the much-anticipated opening night of Hamlet. Guests arrived to live music from a string quartet, setting the tone for an elegant evening celebrating the return of Ambroise Thomas’s rarely staged opera – performed in Buxton for the first time since 1980.

Festival-goers, artists, and creatives gathered outside the historic venue, posing for photos and sharing in the buzz of opening night. Director Jack Furness and the town mayor were among those spotted on the carpet, marking the start of a packed and exciting festival season.
