Buxton International Festival is part of the Buxton Cultural Consortium, we are working with other arts and heritage organisations in Buxton celebrating culture in Our Street.
The people and businesses at the heart of Buxton’s town centre are set to be celebrated in ‘Our Street’ – an exhibition of newly commissioned portrait photography. From shopkeepers to stylists, and from the town crier to the High Sheriff Of Derbyshire, all have been photographed over the last three months by top portrait photographers hailing from across the region (Derbyshire/Cheshire).
The exhibition will be held in The Pump Room, Buxton over three evenings – April 7, 8, 9 from 4.30-7pm – and will be free entry.
‘Our Street’ is a cultural project facilitated by Buxton Cultural Consortium and funded by Historic England as part of the High Street – Heritage Action Zone scheme. The photographers whose work will be exhibited are Arlen Connelly, Sarah Louise Pickering, David John King, Chelsea Shoesmith, Mo El-Fatih, Chris Seddon, Holly Booth & Peter Salter, Tess Viera, Ben Pollard and Ashley Bird.
Ashley Bird has commissioned the photography and curated the exhibition. He says: “It’s been great scouring the area for the best photographers to create this exhibition – each has their own style, and each has captured something unique about the people and businesses they have photographed. The results range from simply beautiful to slightly odd (in a very Buxton way), and some are quite surprising!”
After the event, a new Instagram page – @ourstreetbuxton – will feature the photographs as well as information on future Our Street events.
