A Classical Christmas Playlist chosen by Klezmer-ish

Klezmer-ish, four incredibly outward-looking classically trained musicians who met whilst playing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, have curated our second classical Christmas playlist for 2020.

Drawing inspiration from the music of bygone travellers, the quartet explore the music of immigrants from various cultural backgrounds who left their homelands in pursuit of a different life. From rip-roaring klezmer and dynamic tango to their self-penned gypsy jazz, Klezmer-ish bring a trademark twist to whatever genre takes their fancy.

You can view each piece separately on YouTube or watch the entire playlist on the Buxton International Festival YouTube channel.

Bing Crosby & David Bowie singing “The Little Drummer Boy”

Rob our guitarist says “I love the way David Bowie and Bing Crosby come together across musical and generational boundaries. Really heart warming.”

“Der Leiermann” from “Winterreise” by Schubert, performed by Thomas Quasthoff and Daniel Barenboim

Our bass player Marcel chose this wintery composition which depicts a hurdy-gurdy player trying to perform with numb fingers…

Dusty Road by Klezmer-ish

Lastly, we had to include one of our own pieces! This is the title track from our album “Dusty Road” which was released earlier this year. This particular version was recorded using ambisonic technology which means that when viewed on a mobile phone or tablet, you can move around the ensemble in real time and hear the sound levels change accordingly…or even watch it in virtual reality if you have VR goggles!
