Festival Walk: Raising the curtain on Buxton’s ghost theatres

Tue 9 - Fri 19 July 2019

These events are sold out

It took a long time before Buxton got a theatre as imposing as its Opera House. The first in the town was ‘a mean, dirty thatched house’ according to one eyewitness, and there were quite a few more built and then demolished as the town developed. But along the way, performers on their various stages have included Paganini — a violinist so talented he was thought to be possessed by the Devil. This walk will take you behind the scenes of history in a drama which continues to this day.
