It is with great regret that for the first time in forty years we must cancel the Buxton International Festival in July 2020. This is an enormous disappointment but the health and well-being of our audience, our volunteers, the BIF team and all the artists involved is of primary concern. By taking this difficult decision now we are safeguarding the Festival for the Future. Read our full statement here.

Please save the dates for next year’s Festival taking place 2 – 18 July 2021.

In conversation with Colin Grant

As with the television series that accompanies his latest book, David Olusoga offers not only the tools to explore the history of your own home, but also a vividly readable history of the British city, the forces of industry, disease, mass transportation, crime and class. The rises and falls, the shifts in the fortunes of neighbourhoods and whole cities are here, tracing the often surprising journey one single house can take from elegant dwelling in a fashionable district to a tenement for society’s rejects. David Olusoga is one of our most hard-working historians, broadcaster and BAFTA-winning film maker. In 2019 he was awarded an OBE for services to history and community integration. Colin Grant is a broadcaster and author of Homecoming: Voices of the Windrush Generation.
