It is with great regret that for the first time in forty years we must cancel the Buxton International Festival in July 2020. This is an enormous disappointment but the health and well-being of our audience, our volunteers, the BIF team and all the artists involved is of primary concern. By taking this difficult decision now we are safeguarding the Festival for the Future. Read our full statement here.
Please save the dates for next year’s Festival taking place 2 – 18 July 2021.
The Hidden Horticulturalists: The Untold Story of the Men who Shaped Britain’s Gardens
In 2012, whilst working at the Royal Horticultural Society’s library, Fiona Davison unearthed a collection of handwritten letters that dated back to 1822. The letters, each carefully set out in neat copperplate writing, had been written by young gardeners in support of their application to be received into the Society’s Garden. Amongst them was a letter from the young Joseph Paxton, who would go on to become one of Britain’s best-known gardeners and architects. But he was far from alone in shaping the way we garden today.
Our musical accompaniment to this event will explore the English Pastorale exemplified by Handel.
Includes a cup of tea.
