The Great BIF Bake Off
Bake-Off eat your heart out! Buxton International Festival turned up the heat on its supporters by challenging them to come up with cakes for its summer Tea Garden, which will run in the University of Derby’s magnificent Dome from July 8 to 21.
The competition was held on 20 June in the kitchens of the Devonshire of Dome. Members of the Festival Friends and staff including Tony Parsons, Teresa Doyle, Gaynor Shawcross, Ettie Labuschagne and Lucy Marsden all rolled up their sleeves to bake their finest creations.
After a full day of flour, sugar and ingenuity, judges Alan Hibbert from the Buxton Pudding Company and University of Derby pastry chef Nicholas Ayieko had the difficult task of choosing a winner. Teresa Doyle took top prize for her vegan ginger cake and Ettie Labuschagne’s beetroot cake was selected for innovation and presentation.
Festival-goers will be able to sample these delicious bakes in the The Tea Garden from 8 July – open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm. This spectacular space will not only provide a place to share notes from the day but also to admire one of the largest unsupported domes in Europe.
