Young Instrumentalists

We launched our refreshed Young Instrumentalist Programme in 2024, creating the inaugural Buxton Chamber Collective.

The collective are made up of musicians living in commuting distance of Buxton, and in the early stages of their career. As part of this year’s pilot programme, an Orchestra Manager is in post who is also learning the ropes in this new role.

How it works

Musicians are engaged to rehearse and perform as per the production schedule. They take part in the build up to the works and perform as part of the festival. This year the collective will play in two productions within the 2024 festival including Haydn’s La canterina and Smyth’s Boatswain, both of which are performed within the Pavilion Arts Centre, Buxton this July 2024. Musicians will additionally perform at smaller concerts including the Buxton Musical Society performances and the Friend’s concerts. This is a paid opportunity, based on the number of rehearsals required and varies based on the scale of each programme.

How to apply

Joining our Young Instrumentalist Programme is highly competitive recruitment process. We cast by auditioning, usually in Manchester in February. Please don’t send us CVs speculatively, as we won’t be able to process them.

If you are interested in auditioning, please join our mailing list to hear news about when we are casting. We regret that we are unable to offer feedback on unsuccessful applications, as we are a small team.
