Alys Mereid Roberts – Soprano

Welsh soprano Alys Mererid Roberts is recent graduate of the Royal Academy Opera programme. Previous roles include Chocholka (The Cunning Little Vixen), Edith (The Pirates of Penzance), Tweedledee (Will Todd’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland), and Tiny Tim / Fan (Will Todd’s A Christmas Carol) at Opera Holland Park, Flora (Turn of the Screw) at OperaGlass Works, Polly Peachum (The Beggar’s Opera) and Shepherd Boy (Tosca) at Mid Wales Opera, Yum Yum (The Mikado) Josephine (H.M.S. Pinafore) at Charles Court Opera, Businesswoman (Pwyll ap Siôn’s Gair ar Gnawd) and Muse (Stephen McNeff’s Hedd Wyn) at Welsh National Opera, and cover Slave (Salome) at English National Opera. Besides singing, Alys enjoys sewing, yoga, and going for walks with Raffi, her rescue greyhound.

 

Hollie-anne Bangham – Mezzo-soprano

Hollie-anne, originally from Bristol and now living in Clevedon, completed a Masters in music, a Postgraduate Diploma and an Undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. Roles include; Shopgirl 2/ Der Silbersee (English Touring Opera) covering Pilar/World Premiere of The Skating Rink (Garsington Opera), Witness 2/World Premiere of Icarus (David Blake and Keith Warner in Montepulciano, Italy). Awards include Garsington Opera’s Simon Sandbach award, Annie Ridyard and Kate Snape scholarship for Mezzo Sopranos. Hollie-anne is excited to be returning to English Touring Opera.

 

Aiden Edwards – Pianist 

Aidan, from West Yorkshire, graduated from the RNCM with a BMus and MMus with Distinction. At the RNCM Aidan performed the roles of Bottom (Britten A Midsummer Nights Dream), Frank (Weill Street Scene) and was the winner of the Elizabeth Harwood Prize. Aidan has also worked with Opera North and Scottish Opera as a member of the chorus as well as outreach and education projects. In ETO’s Spring 2022 season, Aidan sings Policeman in La bohème, understudies King Dodon in The Golden Cockerel and performs Paper Doll, Pierrot and Teddy Bear in the Learning and Participation production Paper and Tin.

Come and join us for an intimate gathering in the splendour of Moorcroft House, Buxton in the company of soloists from the Olivier Award-winning English Touring Opera who will perform a recital of operatic repertoire during their Spring visit to Buxton for members of BIF Friends. The event will take place Friday 18 March, 12.45pm and will include a welcome drink and lunch. The full timings are below:

12:45 – Welcome drink

1.15 pm – Lunch served

2.30pm – ETO recital

3.45pm – Close

Places cost £40 per person and can be booked on the Festival website or by sending a cheque payable to ‘Friends of BIF’ to 3 The Square, Buxton SK17 6AZ.

For those members wishing to extend their musical pleasure English Touring Opera will be performing La bohème at the Buxton Opera House on the same evening and tickets can be booked directly with the Opera House.
